The collaboration between the Major League Gaming, The Coalition and Gears of War resulted in the competition that was announced earlier this year.
The event featured the competition in Gear of Wars eSports and it was held on July 30 and on July 31, 2016. The event called the Gear eSports MLG North American Open was held at the MLG Arena in Columbus, Ohio. The number of teams that competed in this competition is 32 and this number of teams included both amateur and professional teams. 30 teams qualified according to the MLG Pro Points and 2000 Series Weekly Online Tournaments results. The remaining two teams qualified by finishing first and second in the Last Chance Qualifier that was held on June 25th. This competition saw 32 teams competing for the prize pool of a 30,000 dollars prize pool.
The format of this competition was the double-elimination Gears of War: Ultimate Edition “Execution”. The settings used for this competition were the standard settings that included character restrictions, six-map cycle that included the map or the faction selection). All of the 32 teams started the competition in Double Elimination Bracket and the winner of the match was determined with the best-of-3 matches approach.
