With the CEVO MLG Season 8 coming to an end, many teams had their eyes upon the LAN Finals competitions that was held between November 6th and November 8th of 2016 and it was organized by CEVO and Major League Gaming. Eight teams have reached the LAN Finals and they competed against each other for the prize pool of 100,000 dollars.
During the LAN Finals, participants competed in the Group Play format of the competition and the winner of a single match was determined by better-of-three games. After the group stage of the competition was completed, two teams from each group advanced to the play offs of this event. In the play off, the format used for this competition was single-elimination bracket and the winner of a single bracket was determined until the final was determined by best-of-three games while the winner of the grand final was determined by best-of-five games.
Some time before the main event of the CEVO/MLG Pro League Season 8 LAN Finals, CEVO released the names of the teams that will participate in this event. There were three categories of the participants. The first category were direct invites and the teams in this category were Virtus.pro and Natus Vincere. The second category are the teams from Europe and they were Titan, Team Dignitas and HellRaiser. The final category of the participants were the participants from North America and those were Team Liquid, Conquest, and Luminosity Gaming.
