2018 will start fast and furious with the ESL One Katowice Major and some of the best Dota 2 teams are expected to participate. A couple of prominent squads have already announced their participation and a few have received direct invitations for the event. Virtus.pro was the first to secure such an invite after their impressive performance and victory in the Dota Summit 8 minor.
The team from the CIS area is among the favorites and is expected to go for its second major championship title. Last year, they were able to win the ESL One Hamburg, but they will have tough competition in Poland in February 2018. The competition is scheduled to begin on February 20 and conclude five days later, with Spodek Arena in Katowice acting as a gracious host.
$1,000,000 and 1,500 Qualifier Points
The ESL One Katowice Major event is arguably the largest scheduled for February, with a massive prize pool of $1 million. Equally important are the 1500 qualifier points that will be awarded to the most successful teams and the event. A total of 16 squads are expected to participate, with 10 receiving direct invitations, while the other six qualifying in regional tournaments. The open qualifiers are scheduled to begin in the first week of 2018, with all major regions to send their best teams for the event. It will all culminate with the closed qualifiers which begin on January 9 and conclude four days later.
