Ambition Wins the Player of the Year ESPN Award
By Frankie Price on Dec 11, 2019

2017 has been a great year for the eSports community and new records were set by many video games tournaments. In anticipation of the great things that 2018 is expected to bring, the ESPN Awards have celebrated the achievements of the greatest professional players. Amazing plays, memorable moments and resilient teams were all brought into the spotlight.

Ambition is the ESPN Player of the Year

Arguably the most important trophy was awarded to Ambition, a League of Legends professional player. He found himself in select company, with the other nominees including NiKo, Hungrybox, Miracle- and Tokido. ESPN decided to give all players the same chances, regardless of the videogame of choice. The ones nominated for this prestigious category made a deep run in well-paying tournaments. Ambition’s victory over Faker earned him the right to sit on the highest step of the podium.

The League of Legends professional player was also at the cornerstone of the Moment of the Year award. ESPN decided that the event called “Ambition wins; Faker loses” was worthy of the most praise. Some really intense plays from Dota 2, Call of Duty and Counter Strike Global Offensive tournaments were nominated in the same category.

Team Liquid won the most important award in MOBA for its overall performance in Dota 2 tournaments. Most of the squads were also involved in MOBA events, but Counter Strike Global Offensive and Overwatch teams were also nominated. Immortals/Dignitas won the unsavory title of the “Biggest Disappointment“ of 2017 for their inability to make the NA LCS.
