The Dota 2 season is largely over, but the best teams are already preparing for major competitions scheduled for early 2018. One of the highlights of January it is by far the largest of all the ESL One Genting Minor Tournaments of the Dota Pro Circuit. Qualifications have already started and with a prize pool of $400,000, there’s tremendous interest for this event.
One team will be invited directly, China will get two spots and the other five regions will all get a spot as well. 12 teams from every region will participate in the regional qualifiers that are scheduled to start on December 19. This stage of the competition will last for three days and the winners of the Chinese qualifiers will be decided between December 28 and December 30.
Teams Grouped in Categories Tier 1 and Tier 2
Europe has a formidable roster, with teams that have secured their presence in the advanced stages of major Dota 2 tournaments. Team OG and HellRaisers are two of the teams from the Tier 1 pool, but there are quality squads in the second group too. The CIS region has a handful of strong candidates as well, with Natus Vincere and Team Empire being the frontrunners.
As always, Asian teams are among the favorites and for this edition of the Dota 2 ESL One Genting Qualifiers, the Philippines are expected to spend time in the spotlight. China will have two teams, which reflects the growing interest for the game in this country. Last but definitely not least, North and South America bring strong teams to the table and are going to be a real threat at the main event.
