Heroes of the Storm is Blizzard Entertainment’s take on the popular MOBA genre. Just like most of the games belonging to this genre, it draws inspiration from the Warcraft mod DotA. The developers found a way to tweak the core game mechanics and came up with an original hero brawler.
Heroes of the Storm Gameplay
The Heroes of the Storm gameplay bears many similarities to classic MOBA games, but with a special twist. The goal is still the same of destroying the enemy base, but players also need to focus on completing various objectives. Players compete on several maps and not all of them have the classic structure with three lines. Instead, they are scattered with special buildings and mercenary camps defended by computer-controlled enemies.
The manner in which heroes level up is different, as the entire team progresses simultaneously. Heroes of the Storm emphasizes the importance of team-play and the use of strategy instead of rewarding personal skill excessively. That’s why spectacular comebacks are more likely to occur in this game than in DotA 2.
Heroes of the Storm Graphics and Sounds
During the development stage and after release, Heroes of the Storm benefited from the vast resources and tremendous experience of Blizzard Entertainment. This hero brawler has some of the best graphics of all MOBA games and features visually charming maps. Heroes look different, weild unique weapons and have special skills that makes them easy to identify in combat. Heroes of the Storm is free to play and funded through micro-transactions. Players can make their characters even more unique by acquiring several skins for each hero.
Heroes of the Storm is a breath of fresh air in the MOBA genre, with a unique gameplay and some of the best visuals. It still retains the very fragrance that makes the multiplayer online battle arena genre so special. The game can be enjoyed exclusively on PCs and the best part is that it’s free to play.
