Call of Duty is the video game franchise that was initially developed only for Microsoft Windows. However, after some time it was developed also for the gaming consoles and platforms. The first few installments in this franchise were developed by Infinity Ward and released by Activision. However, several last installments of this game were developed by Treyarch and they were also released by Activision. In that sense, Call of Duty: Black Ops III was developed by Treyarch and released by Activision for different consoles and platforms such as Microsoft Windows, Xbox One, Xbox 360, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3. The action of the game is set 40 years after the events of the Call of Duty: Black Ops II, in 2065, and the story of the game once again follows the group of black ops soldiers on their missions.
Call of Duty: Black Ops III is the sequel to the Call of Duty franchise and the fans of this franchise are still not sure how to feel about the changes that these installments introduced to the franchise. The reason for that is the fact that Call of Duty: Black Ops III made a total shift in this franchise and the jury is still out whether the changes were good or not. For the fourth time in a row, Call of Duty installments are set in the future and are dealing with the futuristic warfare. Even though the decision of the developers to once again use the futuristic settings for this game is understandable because it offers more possibilities for creative solutions, the fans of the franchise are still stuck on the previous settings that offered much more realistic warfare.
One thing that many players will notice while playing this game is that many of the actions is somehow familiar and they would not be wrong. Even though the main enemies in this installment are robotic soldiers or Transformers and the main villain of the story is actually the first person that you suspect. Call of Duty: Black Ops III follows almost the same pattern as previous installments and because of that all of this may be a bit familiar for those who played the previous installments. We say almost, because Treyarch managed to put in some of the turn and twist in this game and that was expected. However, we cannot escape the feeling that we have seen all of this before.
One difference that this installment of the game managed to do in comparison to the previous versions is the moving forward during the campaign. Period between the missions was problematic for the previous games from this franchise. However, this version of the game has solved that problem by introducing the system of points that you acquire during every mission. By collecting those points you will move up the level and the highest level you are the more currency you have and the more currency you have you will have a chance to unlock better weapons and skills. Players are not the only one that have levels. The levels have been introduced for the weapons as well. Because of that the notions of tactics has been improved very much in comparison to previous games.
Probably the best feature of this installment of the franchise is the opportunity to unlock a set of special skills that are divided into three categories. Those three categories include Control, Battle and Chaos. The skills that you unlock through these categories will enable you to run faster, to drive better or provide you with the opportunity to fire robotic bees on your enemies. This installment also introduced several new modes but also kept several modes that were part of the previous installments. One new mode is the Nightmares mode in which you will once again go through the level of your campaign but the difference in this mode is the fact that this time you will be fighting against zombies as well. One of the modes that were part of previous installments is Shadows of Evil. This mode is actually the standard Zombie mode that is a fun way to spend your free time together with four of your friends.
One of the biggest improvements that this game has introduced is the multiplayer feature of the game. While in the previous installments the movement of the players was somehow limited, the Call of Duty: Black Ops III enabled players to move freely in this mode without limitations and this will most definitely change the way of how the game is played. Another improvement that this feature has introduced is the fact that you play the multiplayer as a one member of the nine special soldiers that have been carefully and intentionally created.
However, you will have to unlock those special soldiers one at a time and it demands a lot of effort. These soldiers have different abilities that you can use in your campaigns and some of those abilities are seeing through the walls for a short period of time and being able to clone themselves in order to confuse the enemies and provide you with the advantage in the battle. Another mode that proved to be very interesting according to the feedback is the Capture the Flag mode. This mode offers a combination of maps and the abilities of the previously mentioned soldiers that you can use in an effort to capture the flag of the opposing team. However, a lot more popular modes in this installment are Team Deathmatch, Free for All and Domination.
In general, the Call of Duty: Black Ops III does not offer any revolutionary solutions or methods. It feels that we have already seen many of these things previously. However, rarely any game in this genre can match Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 in the aspect of the content. It does not matter what kind of player you are you will be able to find something for yourself that will make you want to come back to this game. All in all, Call of Duty: Black Ops III is really good game and in many aspects it has improved in comparison to previous installments of this franchise.
