Released in November 2014 for PS 4, PS3, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PC, Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare is one of the most advanced first person shooters of all times. The game was developed by a team effort of Sledgehammer Games, Raven Software and High Moon Studios and features some of the finest game mechanics ever seen along with a compelling story and more action than you could wish for.
Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare takes us into the future. It is the year 2054 and the American government seems to be losing power over its own country as more and more private armies are arising, taking much of the power into their own hands by force.
Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare Gameplay
A futuristic setting means you will want to see some futuristic weaponry, and equipment, and Advanced Warfare does not disappoint. Unlike many of the COD games set in historic timelines, the entire timeline of Advanced Warfare is made up, which means you will be wielding equipment beyond current military capabilities. The exo suit you will be wearing during many of the missions and at all times during the multiplayer allows for abilities that are borderline magic, but make sense in a technological sense.
The game’s main campaign puts you in the shoes of a young marine being deployed on his first mission and has you learning the tricks to using the exo suit along with a number of other futuristic weaponry that looks and feels like what weapons of the future may very well be like.
During the main campaign, you are recruited by the Atlas Corporation, one of the private armies who have become rising to power. In a gameplay sense, you will come to learn about the various abilities of the exo suit, but to play the game in the most complete sense, you will have to experience the online multiplayer mode where all the various abilities of the exo suit are available.
The game will have you moving both horizontally and vertically as the exo suit allows for jumping and climbing unavailable in regular FPS games. With the use of advanced technologies, players are now able to see enemies through walls, remain invisible and jump from high altitudes unharmed. All of this makes for an even more exciting gameplay and tons of options for every move you are looking to make around the map.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Single Player Mode
As already mentioned, the storyline of the main campaign has you become a part of the most powerful army in the world of 2054, where corporate armies own technologies unavailable to the government. One thing everyone will notice some minutes into the game is the star studded actors lineup used for the cutscenes, which is led by none other than Kevin Spacey, who acts as the head of the Atlas Corporation in the game.
While the actual storyline of the campaign is somewhat predictable and not all that exciting at times, this is well compensated for by some solid acting, astonishing graphics and animations, realistic background and weapons sounds and a ton of awesome gadgets you get to use in each and every mission.
As you progress through the storyline, you will get access to more and more of your exo suit’s abilities, along with lots of other unique equipment and weaponry, all of which will make every mission you start feel like a new challenge. The one little downside is that you can’t use all the abilities in every level, which makes you feel like bit less of a superhuman than it would be possible if all the abilities were unlocked throughout the campaign.
The campaign lasts for about 6 hours in total and is not all that difficult, but will serve as a solid way to get acquainted with the game as you train for multiplayer. Most people will want to see what happens in the actual storyline as well so we will leave that up to you to find out.
Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare Multiplayer
COD is primarily a multiplayer game, and Advanced Warfare shows this quite clearly as the multiplayer mode is tons more advanced than the single player. The exo suit really makes COD gameplay come alive, as the movement of every player on the map becomes wildly less predictable which makes the game so much more fun to play.
As usual, players will have a long list of options when it comes to creating and customizing their character, and the new Pick 13 system gives even more space for weapons, equipment and perks than was the case with earlier versions of the game.
Advanced Warfare multiplayer is absolutely hectic. With a long list of maps and modes available for play, players will now have the chance to move around the map in a much more liberating way, while destroying everything in their path with even more customizable and powerful weapons and a ton of new abilities.
The game offers the much needed revolution to COD multiplayer gameplay which was getting a bit stale. With the advanced movement patterns and equipment introduced in Advanced Warfare, players now need to learn how to use their usual tactics and strategies in synergy with the new modern way of field combat and to say it is exciting to play Advanced Warfare in multiplayer is an understatement.
The extreme adaptability and customizability of the multiplayer mode has made the game wildly popular, with tournaments taking place across the world and the 2015 Call Of Duty World Championship awarding a million dollars to the best COD: Advanced Warfare teams in the world.
Activision in partnership with several developers have once again done a terrific job of publishing a game that simply takes the breath away. COD: Advanced Warfare is a true game changer when it comes to first person shooters and the additions to gameplay it introduced have set it far apart from earlier COD titles and way above most of the other FPS games.
Advanced Warfare features one of the most exciting multiplayer modes with unprecedented customizability, fantastic graphics, animations and sounds and the smoothest gameplay anyone could imagine. Overall speaking, Advanced Warfare remains among the best FPS titles ever created to date.
