Call of Duty 2 is a video game that was developed by Infinity Ward and that was published by Konami in Japan while it was released in other parts of the world by Activision. This was the second installment that came out in 2005 as a part of the Call of Duty franchise. The game was initially released for Microsoft Windows. However, less than a month after that release the game was also released for other platforms including Xbox 360 and mobile phone including the Pocket PC. The game is based on the events that happened during the World War II and the player is able to experience the game through the perspective of four soldiers that include two soldiers from the British Army, one soldier from the United States Army and one soldier from the Red Army.
The game provides the player with the opportunity to play in four different campaigns that are divided into three stories with 27 missions in total. Traditionally, the best features of this game have been great design, amazing sound effects, and impressive multiplayer. If you were a fan of the first installment in this franchise you will most definitely enjoy the second installment. However, even those players who are starting their Call of Duty experience with the second installment will be pleased and will be addicted to this first-person shooter game. The second installment includes all the features that made the first installment great and so popular. However, it also adds some new features that are making the experience of playing this game even better. Even though this is a one-person shooter game you will not be participating in the battles on your own. During every stage of the game you will be accompanied by dozens of other soldiers among which there will be both friends and enemies.
Interesting feature of the game is that it does not make you think that only infantry is participating in the war. From time to time, planes will be flying over your location as well as at one point of the game you will witness the naval strike and the enemy ships being destroyed by your allies. This actually contributes to the actual representation of the battles in war which has been a part of this franchise for so many years.
One of the biggest changes that Call of Duty 2 introduced in comparison to the first installment of this game is that the second installment does not include the health or regeneration bar. Instead, in Call of Duty 2 when you get shot the screen will become more and more red indicating how much health you still have. So the logical conclusion is if you get shot one or more than one times you will have to find a cover and wait till your health gets regenerated. Some players have indicated that this feature has already been used in some other games such as Halo but that does not matter actually because it works perfectly together with every other feature of Call of Duty 2. The lack of ammo has also been resolved in the second installment by simply placing a lot of dead bodies all over the location.
Besides the single-play gameplay there is also a multiplayer option. Call of Duty 2 multiplayer options is starting where the first installment left off. The multiplayer option offers several modes of the game. These modes include the usual deathmatch, team deathmatch and the capture-the-flag mode. The search-and-destroy mode of the game that was present in the first installment is also included. Most interesting mode from all that are available is the one called Headquarters. In this mode two teams are playing to capture points for both teams that have been marked on the map. In order to gain points in this mode, teams must capture and establish a headquarters in one of the two areas on the map. What makes this mode so interesting is the possibility to capture, defend and to shift the headquarters from one location to another.
The locations that this game will take you to are truly amazingly done. The graphics and the animation of this game will make the experience of playing in the cold areas of Russia or in hot areas of North Africa or the in the village in France much more realistic than in some other games that deal with similar issues.
Developers that conducted such a great job while developing Call of Duty 2 should be congratulated on the work that they have done. Call of Duty 2 is one of the best if not the best World War II shooter game in the world. The sound effects, the graphics and the animation combined together make Call of Duty 2 one of the best games out there and can serve as an example of how games should be developed in those regards.
